Graduation: A Celebration for All

Imagine the thrill of graduating from college with Jerry Seinfeld as your commencement speaker. For most Duke graduates, it was an unforgettable moment. However, some chose to walk out during his address solely because he is a Jewish comedian. This protest was particularly ironic, as they missed a unique opportunity to hear from a renowned actor who often critiques left-wing, politically correct culture.

The majority of students enthusiastically supported Seinfeld. Many viewed walking out as both silly and disrespectful. Even if you don’t find him funny, it’s important to show respect for your college and fellow graduates. Graduation is a celebration for everyone, not just a small group of dissenters.

By walking out, the protesters not only spoiled their own experience but also disrupted the ceremony for others. All because they disapproved of the speaker? After years of hard work, the least they could do was stay for an hour and help make the ceremony special for everyone.
