I’m Positive You Will Not Know What This Is
Children today would likely be baffled by a VHS tape, a landline telephone, or a Walkman, having never encountered these once-common items. Growing up in an era of rapid technological advancement, it’s remarkable to witness how quickly household staples have become obsolete.
I must admit, when I first saw a photo of the object below, I was clueless. I could tell it was a metal tool of some kind, but beyond that, I was stumped. Do you recognize this object?
Does it look familiar? It’s an old oil can opener spout! Although it might seem ancient, it actually dates back to the 1980s. Back then, this tool was used to puncture a hole in the top of oil cans, with the spout facilitating easy pouring. Despite its simple design, it was quite ingenious.
Reflecting on the ’80s feels like remembering just yesterday, yet it’s astonishing to realize that was over 40 years ago! While these openers are no longer commonly used, I bet many people still have one tucked away in their garage toolboxes. Moreover, collectors, especially mechanics, cherish these items. So, if you come across one at a yard sale or antique store, it might be worth picking up this nifty little gadget.
