Wisconsin Dairy Queen puts up ‘Politically Incorrect’ sign, owner stands by his decision

A prominently displayed note adorning the front window of a Dairy Queen establishment in Kewaskum, Wisconsin has sparked considerable attention, currently trending across online platforms. The note boldly declares the restaurant’s stance on what some may deem politically incorrect, emphasizing its frequent use of traditional holiday greetings such as “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America.” Additionally, it highlights the establishment’s support for Veterans Day, offering free sundaes to veterans, prominently displaying the US flag, and expressing gratitude for their military service.

Kevin Scheunemann, the owner of the restaurant, staunchly defends the sign, asserting that it was installed nearly four years ago to transparently communicate his and his staff’s dedication to both serving God and their country. Scheunemann explains that the note was posted in response to a complaint from a patron regarding the playing of Christian music within the eatery. Since its installation, the sign has not caused any further issues.

The recent surge in attention towards the sign can be attributed to a visitor from Oregon who shared a photograph of it on Facebook, expressing concerns about its perceived exclusivity. The initial post garnered significant traction before being taken down.

Opinions regarding the sign are varied, with some individuals supporting its message while others take offense at the individual who shared the photograph and voiced their opinions. Local business owners, however, stand behind Scheunemann’s decision to display the sign, asserting that patrons are free to patronize other establishments if they do not align with its principles.

The residents of Kewaskum, a small town, seem to interpret the sign as a sincere expression of the owner’s beliefs. Dairy Queen officially disclaims support for Scheunemann’s approach, stating that the sign reflects the opinions of the individual proprietor rather than the corporation’s stance. Regardless of a customer’s religious beliefs, the company asserts that all franchisees and employees are expected to treat them with respect and decency.
